Prakash Kandasamy started learning the tabla from The Temple of Fine Arts under Suresh Ramachandran in 1989. He later went to India to further his pursuit of tabla under maestros, Ustad Mohd Hanif Mirajkar and Ustad Usman Khan.

He has been accompanying instrumentalists, singers and dancers locally and internationally in countries like Australia, USA, France, Italy, Singapore and India and is also a very sort after recording artist locally having recorded for classical musicians like Samuel J Dass and pop musicians like Reshmonu. He has also recorded internationally with sitar maestro Ustad Usman Khan in India for two Indian classical albums.

Prakash has won awards locally as well as internationally. Some of the awards he has received are:

Cameronian Award 2007 – Best Solo Instrumentalist
